Residential

"Using pro-integrative strategies to support stable racial integration in our towns, this group works with realtors, civic leaders, and neighborhood groups and associations, and it develops financial incentives to promote and strengthen integration in neighborhoods."

The Residential Committee supports residential racial integration, diversity, and inclusion in the South Orange and Maplewood with the following efforts:

  • The development of pro-integrative financial incentives to foster pro-integrative real estate activity. Currently, the incentive is the Wealth Gap Equalizer Loan (WGEL) which supports Black and non-white Hispanic first-time homebuyers in South Orange and Maplewood.
  • Work with realtors to encourage pro-integrative marketing in all South Orange/Maplewood neighborhoods and to provide information sessions for realtors to increase their effectiveness in addressing issues of interest or concern for prospective home buyers.
  • Advocacy for pro-integrative goals such as affordable housing; development that supports racial and socio-economic diversity; town planning that supports racially diverse businesses and equitable access to community opportunities; and more.
  • Engagement with Neighborhood Associations & Groups which provide opportunities for civic participation, addressing neighborhood concerns, and building relationships with neighbors.

This committee meets monthly on Thursday evenings by Zoom. For more information on joining, please complete the Volunteer Sign Up form here.
